This study discusses Loco Regional Hyperthermia (LRHT), a treatment that uses controlled heat to target and treat malignant cells in solid tumors, with a focus on its unique application through modulated electric fields. Unlike traditional hyperthermia, which indiscriminately heats tissues, LRHT selectively delivers energy to tumor cells by taking advantage of the higher ionic concentrations and conductivity found in malignant tissue. A mobile electrode is placed over the tumor, while a stationary electrode underneath the patient helps to direct a modulated electric field at a frequency of 13.56 MHz, concentrating the heat on the tumor. This focused energy absorption causes the malignant cells to heat up and eventually undergo apoptosis, a process of programmed cell death. The therapy also works by stimulating the body’s immune system to re-engage and assist in the destruction of cancer cells.

LRHT is often used as an adjunct to chemotherapy and radiation, enhancing the effectiveness of these treatments and helping to overcome cancer cells that have developed resistance. It has been shown to complement traditional therapies by improving their impact while also reducing side effects. Importantly, LRHT has minimal adverse effects on healthy tissues due to the body’s efficient circulation, which disperses the heat quickly, while tumors with poor blood supply are unable to dissipate heat as effectively. The treatment, which is non-invasive, may cause mild skin reddening, but this is typically temporary and manageable. Overall, LRHT provides a promising, low-risk, and complementary therapy for cancer patients, enhancing the benefits of conventional treatments while minimizing the potential harm to healthy tissues.
