Light Work Pays Off
Clearlight® Red Light Therapy combines powerful red light (650nm) and near infrared (850nm) wavelengths to offer you the best therapy available today. Clearlight Red Light Therapy provides the most proven and effective therapeutic wavelengths to the entire body reducing oxidative stress and stimulating the production of ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate).
This process, known as Photobiomodulation, has been extensively researched for many years and adds measurable energy to the mitochondria of your cells. Our Red Light Therapy Towers can be used during your sauna session or as a stand-alone therapy outside your sauna.
Red Light Therapy, also known as photobiomodulation and low-level light therapy, uses red and near-infrared low-level wavelengths of light for a variety of health and wellness benefits. Red light is considered “low level” because it works at an energy density that’s low compared to other forms of laser therapies. Unlike the ultraviolet light from the sun or tanning beds, red light therapy does not use UV light and does not tan or burn the skin. In the early 1990s, Red Light Therapy was used by NASA scientists to help grow plants in space. They found that the intense light from red LEDs promoted the growth and photosynthesis of plant cells, and later research explored the same wavelengths for wound healing in astronauts.
Red light was then studied for its ability to increase energy inside human cells. The human body needs to make ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate) cellular energy to function and survive. This occurs naturally when our bodies are exposed to natural sunlight. Red and near infrared wavelengths of natural light stimulate the mitochondria in our cells. The mitochondria turn the light into usable energy for our bodies through the process of cellular respiration.
Once available only in clinics, dermatology offices, and spas, red light therapy is now widely used at home with devices such as towers, panels, masks, and handheld wands. Clearlight Red Light Therapy Towers bring clinical-strength output to your home, where they can be used on their own or inside your Clearlight infrared sauna.
Light therapy has been tested across hundreds of peer-reviewed clinical trials with positive results. The benefits of Red Light Therapy include:
Research into red light therapy continues to grow, with studies exploring its effects on skin texture and fine lines, joint discomfort, post-workout soreness, hair growth and sleep. Many people start with one goal, such as skin health or recovery, and discover additional benefits with consistent use.
Red light therapy works through a process called photobiomodulation. When red (650nm) and near infrared (850nm) light reaches your skin, it is absorbed by light-sensitive molecules inside the mitochondria of your cells, most notably an enzyme called cytochrome c oxidase. That absorption gives the mitochondria a measurable boost in producing ATP, the energy currency every cell runs on.
With more available energy, cells repair and regenerate more efficiently. Research also shows that red and near infrared light trigger the release of nitric oxide, which widens blood vessels and improves local circulation, and that it helps reduce oxidative stress and inflammatory signaling in the treated tissue. Together, these effects are what drive the benefits people associate with red light therapy: firmer, brighter skin, faster muscle recovery, less joint discomfort and better overall cellular health.
The two wavelengths do different jobs. Red light at 650nm is absorbed mostly in the skin, roughly the first 5 millimeters, which is why it is used for collagen production, skin tone and wound healing. Near infrared light at 850nm is invisible to the eye and travels deeper into muscle, joints and connective tissue, which is why it is used for recovery, pain and inflammation. Clearlight Towers deliver both at the same time, so a single session works on the surface and beneath it.
Dose matters. The benefit you receive depends on the device’s irradiance (how much light energy reaches your skin, measured in mW/cm²), your distance from the light and how long you stay in front of it. Clearlight Towers produce up to 110 mW/cm², which means you can reach an effective dose in a 10 to 20 minute session rather than the 30 minutes or more that lower-powered masks and panels often require.
You do not need a clinic appointment to get results from red light therapy. With a well-built device and a consistent routine, at-home red light therapy delivers the same wavelengths dermatologists and sports recovery centers use, on your schedule and without a per-visit fee. Here is how to get the most from every session with your Clearlight Tower:
| Do | Don’t |
|---|---|
| Follow the distance and time guidance above and keep it consistent from session to session so your dose is reliable. | Don’t assume longer sessions or multiple sessions a day speed up results. |
| Treat bare, clean skin and let the light reach the area directly. | Don’t treat through clothing, thick lotions or sunscreen. |
| Wear the provided eye protection, especially for facial sessions. | Don’t stare into the LEDs. |
| Check with your healthcare provider if you are pregnant, photosensitive or taking light-sensitizing medication. | Don’t use red light therapy to replace prescribed treatment for a medical condition. |
| Keep the tower’s lens surface clean and store it per the care instructions. | Don’t use the device with damaged cords or in wet conditions outside of its rated environment. |
Not sure which at-home format is right for you? Masks and small handheld devices are convenient for spot treatments but deliver a fraction of the irradiance and coverage of a tower, which is why a single Clearlight Tower can cover your face, your back or your full body in one session. Clearlight Red Light Therapy is the only red light therapy unit available using Variable Optics™. Most other light therapy units have a single optical output at 30 degrees. This limits the amount of light absorbed by the human body.
The light receptors in our skin absorb the Red and Near Infrared light. With a single optic there is a single acceptance angle. With our Variable Optics technology we use a mix of 7 to 60 degree optics creating multiple cross acceptance angles of the light waves. This allows the light to travel better in to our cells and offer more benefit.
Our Variable Optics technology allows you to maximize the benefits of light therapy in every session. This technology is only available with Clearlight Red Light Therapy.
For nearly 30 years, Clearlight has pioneered infrared wellness for the home. In 2019, we became the first infrared sauna company to bring red light therapy directly into the sauna environment, making it easy to experience both therapies together.
Effective red light therapy requires attention to wavelengths, dose, optics, distance, and placement. That’s why we engineered a purpose-built device for the sauna. Our CORE Tower is designed for the sauna’s heated environment and uses patented Variable Optics™ technology to combine concentrated, targeted light with broader coverage than most of the red light products currently on the market.
Every one of Clearlight Red Light Therapy Towers features 70 red LEDs in the 650 nm range and 70 near-infrared LEDs in the 850 nm range. With an output of up to 110 mW/cm², our Red Light Therapy Towers are our most powerful and effective at-home red light therapy devices. Their flicker-free LED bulbs have an intensity rating of 100 mW/cm², helping deliver the optimal wavelengths for effective sessions.
In simple terms, Clearlight Red Light Therapy uses targeted wavelengths of light to support cellular energy, promote cell regeneration and help you pursue your health and wellness goals. Whether you want full-body red light therapy for your home or you want to add red light therapy to your infrared sauna sessions, Clearlight makes it easy to incorporate this technology into your wellness routine. Experience the maximum benefit in the shortest session time – because we understand that your time is precious.

Red light therapy is considered safe, non-invasive and pain-free when used as directed. It does not use ultraviolet light, produces very little heat and has no known serious side effects with short-term, properly dosed use. As with any wellness device, there are a few things to keep in mind:
Red light therapy is a wellness tool, not a substitute for medical care. If you are using it to support a diagnosed condition, keep your healthcare provider informed.
From safety and session length to what sets a Clearlight Tower apart, here are the questions people ask most about red light therapy at home.
Yes. Red light therapy is non-invasive, does not use ultraviolet light and has no known serious side effects when used as directed. The most common issues, eye strain and temporary skin redness, come from staring into the LEDs or overusing the device. Wear the provided eyewear, follow the recommended distance and session times, and check with your healthcare provider if you are pregnant, photosensitive or taking light-sensitizing medication.
Three to five sessions per week is the sweet spot for most people. Sessions run 10 to 20 minutes when standing in front of the tower, or 20 to 30 minutes when seated in your sauna with the CORE Tower on the door. Consistency matters more than intensity.
Yes, and the two work well together. The Clearlight CORE Tower is the only red light therapy unit designed to mount inside an infrared sauna. Infrared heat warms tissue and increases circulation while red and near infrared light work at the cellular level. Run the tower during your sauna session, or use it before your sauna if you prefer to treat a specific area first.
Full-body and torso sessions expose the abdomen to red and near infrared light, which can support skin firmness, help soften the appearance of stretch marks and ease muscle soreness after core workouts. Some early research has explored red light therapy for fat reduction and gut health, but the evidence is still limited, so treat those as potential rather than proven benefits.
Red and near infrared light can increase circulation to the scalp and energize hair follicles, and low-level light therapy has been studied for androgenic (pattern) hair loss. For scalp sessions, use the PERSONAL Tower several times per week and plan on at least three months of consistent use before judging results.
Clinic and spa sessions typically cost anywhere from $25 to $100 or more per visit, and results require ongoing treatment several times a week. Owning a device means unlimited sessions for a one-time cost, no travel and the consistency that drives results, so most regular users find a home tower pays for itself within months.
LED masks use light-emitting diodes to distribute light across the face. Laser masks use laser diodes that produce a more focused, directional beam of light.
Laser technology is generally more complex and often comes with a higher price tag. However, both technologies are used for skincare, and a higher price doesn't necessarily mean better results.
